Public Services and Outreach Librarian

Pontiac Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, customer service focused candidate to join our Library team.

Qualifications: 

• Masters in library science or near completion from an ALA accredited institution. 
• Experience working with adults preferred.   
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to work independently. 
• Proficiency with emerging technology. 
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, and work in a team environment.
• Flexibility in work schedule, able to work some days, evenings, and weekends.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to comprehend and sustain fundamental principles of library services, to include open access to library materials and privacy rights of patrons.
• Successfully pass a background check & pre-employment screening  

Primary Job Duties:   

• Works regularly at the reference desk to answer reference questions, provide readers advisory information as well as assisting with computer software and web base programs
• Oversees portions of Adult collection development and maintenance.
• Develops and implements Outreach programs and Adult Services (especially Seniors).
• Shares the responsibility for displays and bulletin boards in the Adult area.
• Establish effective relationships and collaborates with community organizations through outreach programing.
• May join professional organizations and attend relevant workshops and conferences.   
• Provides both one-on-one and group training in the use of the library, the library catalog, reference materials, computer databases, and the Internet. May teach classes for both the general public and library staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
